Laughing at Days to Come

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at days to come.”

Proverbs 31:25

Sunday morning, I felt the Holy Spirit whisper to  me, “she can laugh at days to come.” It stopped me in my tracks. I have read Proverbs 31 many times, but never really thought about this verse. God wants me to. I am a generally happy and positive person and have a good sense of humor, (if I do say so myself- ha!), but laughing at days to come is not a practice in which I succeed. I worry. I fret. I am not proud of it.

So what does it mean to laugh at days to come? Well, if you read Proverbs 31, you will see that this is not a story of a spoiled woman without a realistic viewpoint- not at all. This wife and mother works hard, plans, and prepares for her family. She is “clothed with strength and dignity” which comes from knowing the Lord and having HIS power and confidence. Since she has His help, she does not have to worry about the future because she knows that does absolutely no good anyway.  ”Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?” Luke 12:25

The Proverbs 31 woman does all that she can for her family and then casts her burdens on the Lord so that she can laugh at the days to come knowing:

1. They are coming whether she worries about them or not, (troubles and all).

2. God is her strength and her dignity so she can get through anything.

Pregnancy and parenting can bring with them many stresses, but through prayer, praise, and studying God’s Word, you can have a “peace that surpasses all understanding.” Let’s start laughing.
